When a column has grouping switched on in the template, you can combine several rows into one cell while filling a register log — for example, one cast date for six samples, or a batch total in a single cell. There are two kinds of result:
Number column → a calculated cell (Total, Average or Standard Deviation).
Text / Date / Options / Checkbox column → a shared value cell.
(To switch grouping on, see 2.4.6 Setup grouping in a register template.)
Tick the checkboxes next to the rows you want — they must be next to each other (consecutive), and the source column must have a value in each.
Tap Group Selected.
Check the calculated preview and tap Confirm.
Tick the checkboxes for the consecutive rows.
Tap Group Selected → Confirm Group.
Enter or pick the single shared value in the grouped cell.
Calculated (number) cell: tap Ungroup → confirm. The cell splits back into separate empty cells; the source column values are unchanged.
Shared-value cell: tap Ungroup → confirm. The first row keeps the value; the other rows become empty (for a checkbox, the first keeps its state, the rest reset).
I selected rows but there's no Group button — why? The rows must be adjacent/consecutive and you need at least two. For a number column, the source column must have a value in each selected row.
Why is there a lock icon instead of an Ungroup button? The log has been approved, so the cell is locked. A System Admin can still ungroup it, or an approver can send the log back (Redo) to unlock it.
What happens to my values when I ungroup? Calculated cell: it clears and the rows become editable; source values are untouched. Shared-value cell: the first row keeps the value, the rest are cleared (checkbox: first keeps its state, others reset).
Can I group empty rows? Yes — when there's no value that could be lost, you just get a simple confirmation.
Rows to be grouped must be adjacent/consecutive.
Approved logs lock grouped cells — a System Admin or a Redo unlocks them.
Ungrouping a shared-value cell keeps the value in the first row only.
