Your project's nomenclature is the nomenclature tree list everyone picks locations from. You choose whether people can also type a name of their own, with the Nomenclature type on the nomenclature setup screen. Every project starts on Flexible, so there is nothing you must do.
On the web app, go to Projects → select the project → Nomenclature tab.
Find Nomenclature type, above the nomenclature tree list.
Pick Nomenclature Only or Flexible. Tap the i beside either option to read what it does.
It saves as you pick it. There is nothing else to press.
Nomenclature Only: the fixed setting. People pick from your nomenclature tree list, and that is all. Nobody can type a name.
Example: a precast or PEB project where every element is already in the tree, such as Tower A → 5th Floor → Grid C → Column C3. The inspector taps down the tree and taps Done. There is no box to type in, so every inspection names the place the same way.
Flexible: people pick from your nomenclature tree list, type their own name when the place is not in it, or do both. They do not have to type anything.
Example: a residential project whose tree goes Tower A → 5th Floor → Flat 502. Most of the time the inspector picks from the tree. For something not in it, they type it: on its own, such as Shuttering yard or Batching plant, or after a level, such as Tower A / 5th Floor / Lift lobby ceiling.
On both types, when people reach the last level of the tree, the rows have tick boxes and they can select several items at once. They get one inspection covering all of them. Nothing needs switching on.
Example: Tower A → 5th Floor → Columns → tick C1, C3 and C5 → one inspection whose location reads Tower A / 5th Floor / Col C1, Col C3, Col C5.
Every level above the last level is always one item.
Nomenclature Only if every place on your project is already in the nomenclature tree list — precast and PEB projects usually are, right down to element level. Flexible if site teams will meet places the list does not cover, such as a temporary yard or a stockpile.
None — on both settings they tick the five at the last level of your nomenclature tree list. The only difference is that on Flexible they can also type a name after them, such as Starter bars.
Nothing at all. They keep the location they were saved with and read exactly as they always have — in every list, detail view, To Do, report and export. Changing this setting never touches a record.
Yes, at any time, as often as you like. There is no lock, even after records exist.
Yes — all three, on mobile and on web. It is one setting for the whole project.
No. It is one setting for the project.
No. The setting covers the whole nomenclature.
The next time they open the location screen. Anyone in the middle of choosing a location finishes the way they started.
No. It saves exactly as they made it. Nothing is rejected or flagged.
No. There are two choices — the nomenclature tree list alone, or the nomenclature tree list with typing allowed. Typing is never forced on anyone.
A System Admin or Project Admin — the same people who build the nomenclature.
Not on screen. It is recorded, so digiQC support can tell you.
Multiple selection works on both settings, but only at the last level, where every item in the list has nothing below it. If some of the columns have further levels under them, that list is not the last level yet. Check the nomenclature so the columns sit at the same, last level.
There is nothing to switch on. It works on both settings, and there is no separate control for it.
No. It applies at the last level of a branch — wherever a list has nothing deeper under it — and every level above stays one item. That is not configurable.
At the last level of each branch, separately. A branch four levels deep ticks at level 4; a branch three levels deep ticks at level 3. There is no single depth.
Nothing. They keep their location, still read with commas, and filtering on any one of their items still finds them. Ticking carries on working on either setting.
Not today — it was deliberately left out so people tick only what they actually inspected. Tell digiQC support if your team needs it.
Every project starts on Flexible — nothing was changed for you.
Records already saved are never affected, whichever way you switch.
On Nomenclature Only the create option is simply not there — your site team sees no greyed-out button and no error.
Multiple selection at the last level works on both settings and is not separately switchable.
Every level above the last level is always one item, on both settings.
If your team keeps asking for places that are not in the list, the answer is usually to add them to the nomenclature tree list, not to switch typing on.
